Michael Burton

CAREER – Burton was first signed by the New Orleans Saints after participating in the 2019 rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, and after spending the preseason with the club, played in ten games with two starts for Washington, recording three special teams stops. He now returns to New Orleans to compete for the starting fullback position left vacant by the retired Zach Line. Originally selected by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round (168th overall) in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Rutgers, the New Jersey native enters 2020 having played 65 career games with 13 starts over five seasons with Detroit (2015-16), Chicago (2017-18) and Washington (2019), and has carried eight times for 11 yards, as well as adding nine receptions for 53 yards and one touchdown and nine special teams tackles in his career.

2019 – After spending preseason in New Orleans, played in ten games with two starts for Washington and recorded three special teams tackles. 2018 - Played in eight regular season games with one start in his final season in Chicago, catching one pass for six yards and making a special teams tackle…Also made an appearance in NFC Wild Card playoff game vs. Philadelphia. 2017 - Played in 16 games with three starts for Chicago. Rushed for nine yards on four attempts, caught two passes for eight yards and made a special teams stop…Carried once for seven yards for a first down in opener vs. Atlanta, Sept. 10. 2016 - In 15 games in last season in Detroit, recorded a special team stop. 2015 - Played in 16 games with seven starts as a rookie for Detroit, rushing for two yards in four attempts and catching six passes for 39 yards and a touchdown, also recording three special teams tackles…Had first career receiving touchdown at New Orleans, Dec. 21.

COLLEGE: Entered the college football ranks as a walk-on in 2010 and was redshirted his freshman year before emerging as a force in the Scarlet Knights offensive backfield…Played in 42 career games (27 starts) and totaled 116 yards career rushing yards on 22 carries to go along with 401 yards receiving on 47 receptions and three touchdowns…Earned the Paul Roberson award as a senior, presented annually to an individual whose performance, leadership and dedication on and off the field during his career has had the greatest impact on Rutgers football…Helped the Rutgers offense rush for 340 yards in the Quick Lane Bowl victory over North Carolina in Detroit (12/26/14), the highest rushing total for Rutgers since 2007.

PERSONAL: Played football at West Morris Central (Chester, N.J.)
