Biography

NFL CAREER – A solid contributor on defense and special teams, A.J. Klein joined the Saints as an unrestricted free agent at the start of the 2017 free agency period. Klein spent his first four NFL seasons in Carolina after being selected by the Panthers out of Iowa State in the fifth round (148th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. The Wisconsin native’s played in 88 games with 51 starts posting 281 tackles (202 solo), eight sacks, two interceptions, nine passes defensed, four forced fumbles and 29 special teams stops. His combination of intelligence and versatility put him in position to earn a starting position for New Orleans’ defense during the 2017 and 2018 campaigns. In 16 regular contests with 15 starts in 2018, he posted a career-high 72 tackles (44 solo), one interception, two sacks, three passes defensed and two fumble recoveries, playing a key role in a run defense ranked second in the NFL in opponent yards per rush and opponent rushing yards per game.
