New Orleans Saints guard Ben Grubbs hosts Turkey Drive

500 turkeys were purchased for the event

The Ben Grubbs Foundation teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Louisiana to give out turkeys to local families in need this holiday season.

Five hundred turkeys were purchased for recipients to pick up from the NFL Yet Center, where the line wrapped around the block on Tuesday, Nov. 26. [internal-link-placeholder-0]

"The good Lord has put me in the position to be a blessing to a lot of families and through my foundation we're making it happen," Grubbs said. "This Thanksgiving, we're blessing a lot of families that may not have the chance to go out there and have a good dinner so it feels good."

Grubbs started the turkey giveaway while playing for the Baltimore Ravens and decided to carry on the tradition with his family in New Orleans. Today marked his first Turkey Drive since joining the Saints in 2012.

"What's so special about Thanksgiving is family," Grubbs said. "It's an opportunity to get together and make some memories. Every year my mom would come to Baltimore to cook for my teammates and I. Now that I'm married we want to start our own family tradition."

The Ben Grubbs Foundation was formed in 2009 and supports youth programs through Grubbs' holiday drives and celebrity softball games.  For more information on the foundation, you can visit www.bengrubbs66.com.
