New Orleans Saints kicker Charlie Smyth spent 28 games on the practice squad before the strong-legged Northern Ireland native made his NFL debut. A Hollywood script might not do justice to his story: The Gaelic football goalkeeper who never had kicked an NFL football joined the NFL's International Pathway Program, kicked well in the IPP and at the NFL Combine, earned a contract with the Saints and continued working on his craft until he was added to the 53-man roster following Blake Grupe's release.
