On September 25, 2006 the Louisiana Superdome reopened following the damage it suffered a year earlier due to Hurricane Katrina.

The reopening featured a performance by U2 and Green Day and the National Anthem performed by Irma Thomas and Allen Toussaint.

The New Orleans Saints defeated the Atlanta Falcons 23-3 on Monday Night Football.

Former Saints safety Steve Gleason blocks a punt in the first quarter that is recovered by former cornerback Curtis DeLoatch for touchdown that sparked the Saints win.
