On Sept. 13, 2009 the New Orleans Saints opened the season with a 45-27 win over the Detroit Lions which was the Saints' most points on kickoff weekend.

Quarterback Drew Brees tied a club record with six touchdown passes and was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for the performance.
