Saints place DT Brian Young on IR; activate TE Buck Ortega

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Sunday that the team has placed defensive tackle Brian Youngon the reserve/injured list. Taking his place on the roster will be tight end Buck Ortega, who was signed from the Saints' practice squad.

Young, a nine-year veteran who is in his fifth season with the Saints since signing with the Saints as a free agent prior to the 2004 season. The 31-year-old defensive lineman has played in 64 regular season games for New Orleans, making 58 starts, and made 266 tackles with 12 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. In eight games in 2008, Young made 16 tackles with a sack and a forced fumble.

Ortegais a first-year player who has split time between the Saints' active roster and practice squad. After starting the season on the practice squad, the former University of Miami Hurricane played in the first four games of his NFL career in weeks two through five, recording three tackles on special teams. A 6-4, 250-pound tight end, Ortega adds depth on offense and will contribute on special teams.
