New Orleans Saints place Jabari Greer on season-ending IR

He suffered ACL injury in win over 49ers

New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton announced Tuesday that starting cornerback Jabari Greer was placed on season-ending injured reserve after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee in the first half of Sunday's win over the San Francisco 49ers. Greer hasn't had surgery yet.

"Tough for our team," Payton said. "Tough for him."

The team signed cornerback Trevin Wade to fill Greer's place on the roster. Wade, an Arizona product, played last season with the Cleveland Browns. He was released in August. He will wear No. 30 for the Saints.

Greer, a 10-year veteran out of Tennessee, has been a mainstay at cornerback for the Saints since joining the team prior to the 2009 season. He' started 60 games for the Saints with nine interceptions and 68 passes defensed.

The Saints also announced that linebacker Victor Butler has returned to practice but remains on the PUP. Butler, a free-agent pickup this offseason, injured his knee in training camp. The team can practice Butler for 21 days before they have to make a roster move.
