Halftime update: New Orleans Saints 13, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7

Close game in Mercedes-Benz Superdome

The New Orleans Saints grabbed a 13-7 halftime lead over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The Saints scored first on a 6-yard Mark Ingram run and then added two Wil Lutz field goals, the first from 42 yards and the second from 34 as the half expired. Tampa scored on a 12-yard pass from Jameis Winston to tight end Cameron Brate.

It was a far cry from the Saints' loss to the Buccaneers when they failed to score a touchdown and had very limited time of possession. New Orleans ran the ball early, often and effectively with Ingram and Tim Hightower as they held the ball seven more minutes than Tampa.

The Saints (6-8) were eliminated earlier Saturday when Green Bay and Washington both won. Tampa (8-6) is still fighting for a playoff spot.

Saints stat leaders

Drew Brees, 14 of 20 for 142 yards

Brandin Cooks, three catches for 47 yards

Bucs stat leaders

Jameis Winston, 7 of 10 for 72 yards

Jacquizz Rodgers, eight carries for 36 yards

Mike Evans, two catches for 28 yards
