Game recap: New Orleans Saints 17, Jacksonville Jaguars 17  | 2025 NFL Preseason Week 2

The two New Orleans Saints quarterbacks competing to be the team's starter had nice moments in Sunday's preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at the Caesars Superdome but Spencer Rattler shined late. The second-year pro led the team on a nine-play, 82-yard drive in 2:18 capped off by a 20-yard touchdown pass to Dante Pettis. Rattler ran the two-point conversion in to tie the score at 17 with 21 seconds left.

Rookie safety Jonas Sanker picked off Jacksonville on the final play of regulation as the game ended in a tie.

Rattler started the second half and was 18 of 24 for 199 yards, leading three scoring drives, including the touchdown drive. His best play was a 45-yard completion to receiver Mason Tipton in the third quarter. He did have an interception in the red zone late in the fourth quarter as the Saints were pushing to score..

Rookie Tyler Shough got the start and completed nine of 12 passes for 66 yards as the Saints entered halftime down 17-3. The second-round pick out of Louisville had a tough first two possessions but led a nice scoring drive in the second quarter, highlighted by a 28-yard completion to tight end Treyton Welch

The Jaguars (0-1-1) played their starters on offense and defense while the Saints rested their defensive starters which allowed Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence to have a strong outing in limited reps (eight of 10 for 76 yards with a touchdown).

The Saints defense came up with two red zone turnovers as rookie defensive tackle Vernon Broughton recovered a fumble in the first quarter and backup linebacker Jaylan Ford had a nice interception in the third quarter.

Kicker Blake Grupe made a 51-yard field goal and Charlie Smyth added 23- and 40-yarders. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire had a nice game with four carries for 12 yards and two catches for 16 yards while Kendre Miller had six carries for 21 yards. Tipton had six catches for 100 yards.

With Trevor Penning out with an injury and veteran Erik McCoy resting, the Saints starting offensive line was Kelvin Banks (left tackle), Dillon Radunz (left guard), Torricelli Simpkins (center), Cesar Ruiz (right guard) and Taliese Fuaga (right tackle).

The following healthy players did not play Sunday: safety Julian Blackmon, receiver Brandin Cooks, linebacker Demario Davis, defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, defensive end Carl Granderson, tight end Juwan Johnson, defensive end Cam Jordan, running back Alvin Kamara, McCoy, cornerback Kool-Aid Mckinstry, safety Justin Reid, defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd, linebacker Pete Werner and defensive end Chase Young.
