New Orleans Saints players on winning the home opener against Vikings

Postgame quotes from New Orleans Saints players on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014.

QB #9 DREW BREES
(on the unnecessary roughness penalty) "That was straight Hulk Hogan 1985 WrestleMania suplex. It got us a 15-yard penalty and a new set of downs. It helped us go on a 90-yard touchdown drive and made it a two possession game and chew up a lot of clock."

(on if that penalty provided momentum) "Right when it happens you are angry. Then, your emotion takes over and you lock in. Let's use this for our benefit now. Let's put a drive together and let's get some points. We were upset about the way the second and third quarters had gone. We really didn't do much of anything. We had to get things going. That just happened to be the catalyst for that."

(on the defensive stops) "They were great. At the end of the day, the most important stat for a defense is points allowed. Certainly getting turnovers for the offense and creating opportunities are important. Who cares about total defense in regards to yards. Let them drive up and down the field. If you stop them in the red zone, then you are going to win a lot of games."

RB #23 PIERRE THOMAS
(on if it will be easier to sleep tonight following the win) "I'm going to sleep real well tonight. I'm going to sleep with a smile on my face. It's been rough the last two weeks, but we've put that behind us and are moving forward. Now, it's on to the next one."

(on if there is a sense of relief) "It does take a lot of pressure off and a lot of weight has been lifted off our shoulders. We feel comfortable right now and it's the start of a change."

TE #80 JIMMY GRAHAM
(on converting third downs) "For us, third down is a big down. It's where we get our most running done on Thursdays (at practice). We know that if we win the third down battle and convert at a high percentage, then it'll give us a great shot to win."

(on getting the first win) "It's great. Being 1-2 is a lot better than being 0-3."

(on the defense today) "They played terrific today. It was good to see them play like that. Being back at the (Mercedes-Benz Superdome) really helps us a lot. It's great having the Who Dat nation screaming for us."

S #31 JAIRUS BYRD
(on the defensive turnaround) "We spent more time in the meeting room as a defensive team. We knew our defense in and out and we knew our opponent in and out. I think that was a big difference. We took pride in knowing our scheme in and out and we took great pride in knowing their scheme in and out. I think it helped us today."

ILB #50 CURTIS LOFTON
(on the defensive turnaround) "When everyone does their job and executes, then that's what the defense is supposed to look like."

(on being a confidence booster) "Just getting the win itself boosts your confidence and it changes your outlook on everything. We've been 0-2 and it hasn't been all cupcakes and clowns. Now, all the work you put in pays off on Sunday."

OLB #93 JUNIOR GALETTE
(on the defensive turnaround) "I don't feel like we have ever left. Sacks are going to come. Let's look at the end of the year and see where we are."

(on next week) "It's a prime time game and we usually play pretty big. We have to get this next win. That's all that matters. We can't care about the bright lights. Let's get this next win on the road and move on from there."

CB #28 KEENAN LEWIS
(on his third down pass defense) "You get tired of being out there. You don't want to start a new drive. Those are plays that I have to make for my teammates."
