New Orleans Saints players discuss Sunday's loss to Cleveland Browns

Quotes from Saints players after Sunday's game on September 14, 2014

QB Drew Brees

On the sequence where the team had the ball on third and five at the Cleveland 31 yard line:
"We improvised a little bit. That was not the direction it was supposed to go. It was supposed to go to the right. They were heavily overloaded to that side. It was just one of those, 'We can do it. Let's just get it orchestrated and let's go the other way and have the opportunity for a big play.'"

On if he was shocked the timeout call came from the sideline on that play:
"I was hoping it wouldn't. I kind of wish I would have just waved it off and said, 'Hey, we got this.' There are times where obviously, if you're on the sideline, you see something that doesn't just seem to be going the way it's supposed to. That was a critical play in the game so you want to make sure you have a really good play on. Unfortunately, we did not get it off in time."

On what the team does to calm themselves from starting 0-2:
"Just focus on the process and stay together. It is very easy to lose in the way that we've lost. You can point to one play in each of these games. We were one play away in each of these games from being 2-0 as opposed to 0-2. That hurts. It's frustrating. I know how hard we work. Obviously, the expectation level coming into it, but now we've just got to bear down, stay together and understand that if you keep doing things the right way, good things are going to happen. We just need to break the seal. We just need to get our first win and I'm confident things will get rolling from there."

On if it over-simplifies things to say that they are just one play away from winning:
"No, it's literally one play away. Of course, we're all going to look at the film and we're going to say, 'I could have done better here, here, here and here.' There's always a list of things that each guy can look at and say, 'This is what I can do better individually and this is what we need to do better as an offense, as a defense or as a team.' There's a fine line between winning and losing. A fine line. Last year at this time, we had two really close games (in) Week One and Week Two. We made that play that resulted in wins and we started off 2-0. Unfortunately, the flip side of that is this year. We have not made those plays and that's why we are 0-2."

On the team not starting the game off the way they wanted:
"The second play of the game, I juggled that gun snap. We've got a big play if I don't. We've got at least a play that's going to give us a first down. I'm not saying that it's going to be a touchdown, but we've got a play that's going to get us a first down. Then, it quiets the crowd down. All of a sudden that happens and then that gets the defense jacked up. (They) Pin their ears back on the next play and make another nice play. So much of this game is momentum and you have to be able to stay very composed and fight through adversity at times, especially when you're on the road. You have to deal with certain elements, the crowd noise and that kind of thing. I felt like once we settled down, we started rolling. We scored at the end of half and then we only get three drives in the second half. We go right down the field twice and score. Then that last drive, despite the fact we didn't convert the first down and we ended up punting, we completely flipped the field. We started on our own 10 (yard line) and we gave it to them on their five with two and a half minutes left. Should we have scored? Yes, I believe we should have. I believe we should have converted the third down and kept the drive going, got points and put it out of reach. I felt like once we hit our stride we got rolling. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late."

OLB Junior Galette

On not being able to get a win:
"We're disappointed, but we're not discouraged at all. I have the confidence and believe in this defense, offense, and special teams. We're going to get this right and we're going to be the team that everyone expects us to be, the team we expect us to be."

On where he gets his confidence:
"From the guys on our team. They're passionate staring with the front four. I don't care what anybody says, I wouldn't go to battle with anybody else, without Akiem Hicks and Cam Jordan."

TE Jimmy Graham

On not being able to get a win:
"The NFL is a tough league to get a win in. It doesn't matter who you play or where you play them, you've got to be able to finish games. We've always been able to finish games, but unfortunately these last two weeks, we haven't done that. Even offensively, we didn't start well. The first quarter was pretty awful for the offense. We put ourselves in a hole, fought back, but couldn't finish it."

On the offense's slow start:
"They were stopping us. They were buzzing around, doing what they do, and we couldn't get that first first down. It was unfortunate."

On having the same confidence in the team:
"Yes, I do. I don't think I'll ever go into a week thinking I'm going to lose. We are still together and we believe in one another, but now we're in a hole and we have to fight our way back."

On team mood and leadership:
"I mean, we just lost so that sucks. We'll evaluate everyone tomorrow, talk to each other, share some thoughts, and figure out what we need to do to get a win."

RB Mark Ingram

On being confident in the team after today's game:
"We have a great team – great offense, great defense, great special teams. We just need to come together and continue to improve."

On the close losses even with the running game in place:
"We just have to keep improving. We have small mistakes that end up hurting us. We just need to continue to improve. It's not an easy league. You need to come ready to play every week."

On only carrying the ball 11 times today:
"I'm just ready when my number is called, to do whatever I can to be the best player I can be to help this team out. I just want to win games."

On playing better when emotional:
"I'm emotional all the time; although I don't show it all the time. I try to harness and lead it to be positive and not negative."

CB Corey White

On what went wrong in the game:
"I don't know. We practiced all week. Sometimes they're going to convert on third downs. Our job is to get them off the field. It hasn't been working out for us, but we'll bounce back. It's only game two."

On what happened on the last play:
"We're trying to figure that out right now. We're going to watch some film and figure it out from there. We don't know."

On if it was a mistake on man coverage:
"Yeah it was definitely man [coverage]. We just don't know what happened. We have to go watch the film."

On if it is frustrating going 0-2:
"No one likes losing. The business is winning. It's little frustrating losing right now, but like I said, it's still early. We'll get it together."
