A couple of quick observations from the New Orleans Saints training camp practice on Wednesday, Aug.19, from the indoor facility at the Ochsner Sports Performance Center:

  1. LIGHTER LOAD: Practicing in the indoor facility was the first surprise. The 90-minute indoor workout in helmets and shoulder pads replaced the previously scheduled, outdoor, full pads practice. A solid beat-the-heat adjustment for players.
  2. REAL McCOY: Erik McCoy still taking the first-team reps at center through the two practices that media has been allowed to attend. Coach Sean Payton said that rookie Cesar Ruiz, who's working at right guard (and looks like he can fit in right there) will get reps at starting center every second or third day.
  3. TY ONE ON: Running back Ty Montgomery has some "go" to him. Twice – on a swing pass and a reverse-field run, each down the left side – he showed a burst that made it easy to see his appeal. In one-on-one situations, he looks like he'll be a problem.

New Orleans Saints players continue their preparations for the 2020 NFL season during Training Camp practice on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020.
