Drew Brees: we trust Sean and Mickey to make the decisions that are best for the team

Drew Brees spoke with the media on Wednesday

Drew Brees spoke with the media prior to participating in the 2015 Zurich Classic at the TPC Louisiana on Wednesday. Below are highlights from the interview.

On if he is shocked on what has happened in the off-season so far – "I don't think anything surprises me anymore and you take the mind set of, worry about what you control. I was excited to get back here on Monday and see the guys in our locker room and get going again."

On if there is a different vibe in the locker room and can he feel it with all the changes – "I don't know about a different vibe but there are certainly some new faces and guys that are going to play some pretty key roles on our team this year and so this period of time is important, not only to get back training again and the strength and conditioning program and just the way that kind of the foundation that builds moving forward but also just building that comradery and that chemistry with these guys. A lot of these guys are going to have big leadership roles as well, so you want to make sure that we are doing things the right way so that we can kind of pave the way to success later on."

On how closely he will watch the draft this year – "I am more of the not sitting there as the pick is happening but right as the pick has happened I get the text or I am checking online every now and then just to kind of see and then you start to visualize how it all fits together."

On if he got any advance word on the offseason moves – "No, I think at the end of the day, I trust, we trust, Sean, Mickey and all those involved in those decisions to make the decisions that are best for the team. So I never question that. It's always, the guys that are in the locker room those are the guys we have and moving forward with, and I think we are poised to make a big play in this draft with the number of picks we have and the amount of talent that is out there and that is what we are looking forward to and that is what we are excited about."

On if he has confidence in keeping a successful, highly ranked offense with different parts – "Absolutely and you look at a lot of the players that have come through here and they have played such significant roles when they have been here.

"I think in Jimmy's (Graham) case, and take (Darren) Sproles take a number of guys, Sproles went on to have and will continue to have, I imagine a great career in Philadelphia. I imagine Jimmy will go on and have a great career in Seattle and whatever else happens. But the bottom line is, look around our locker room and what types of careers can we help these guys in our locker room have right now and I think we can have some pretty good ones.

On his thoughts on the 2015 schedule and if it sets up better compared to last season – "Yeah, it's… what kind of standard are you using? If you are just looking at records and this and that, or locations, you never know how… bottom line you have to play your best to win every week. It doesn't matter who you are playing, where you are playing, when you're playing them. As the season goes along, there are different circumstances that work their way into those games. But as for now you look at it and you say, 'man these are all really good NFL teams playing for the same thing that we are playing for'."

On if he has had any conversations on extending his contract or if that is something for after the upcoming season – "No, I mean listen, if there was I wouldn't say anything about it just like there are a lot of things that I won't comment on from a contract standpoint just because those conversations are between me and our organization and that is the way I will always, that's the stance I will always take with that."

On what the strangest report he heard about himself this offseason – "Well all the trade rumors I would hear from people, I would have people come in and say, 'I hear you're getting traded to Tampa'. Oh ok great. Then the next week it would be like, ok who is it this week? Buffalo? Or wherever else, so I lost track. But again that's, I know that if things like that were taking place that I have the type of relationship with our team and our organization I would know about those things. So when I hear them second hand or from a media outlet or what have you I don't really pay it much…"

On if it is too early in the offseason to get a feel for the attitude, mindset or the culture of the locker room – "Oh I mean, way too early with regards to the identity that is built by the team because that takes months and months and throughout training camp and you build that over time and with repetition and with practice. At this point I just know that we have a bunch of young hungry guys that see a great opportunity."
