The San Francisco 49ers entered halftime with a 16-7 lead over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at the Caesars Superdome.
The 49ers started Mac Jones at quarterback in place of the injured Brock Purdy and Jones threw for an 11-yard touchdown, set up a successful field-goal attempt and hit Christian McCaffrey with a 7-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds left in the half.
Saints defensive end Carl Granderson sacked Jones twice.
Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler hit Rashid Shaheed with a 39-yard completion on the first possession but failed to connect with an open Chris Olave in the end zone. Kicker Blake Grupe missed a 40-yard field-goal attempt and the Saints didn't get back in scoring position until the end of the half when Rattler connected with tight end Juwan Johnson on an 18-yard touchdown pass with 1:14 to play.
Rattler was nine of 15 for 104 yards with one touchdown. Running back Alvin Kamara had eight carries for 46 yards. The Saints were penalized five times for 40 yards and were two for six on third downs. The 49ers were five of eight on third down.
Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan played in his 228th game Sunday, tying Drew Brees for the franchise record.
The 49ers (1-0) will get the ball to start the second half.
