Randy Mueller, holding 38 years of professional football player personnel experience, rejoined the Saints in 2024 as a Senior Personnel Advisor.
Prior to returning to New Orleans, for whom he served as General Manager from 2000-02 and was named the consensus NFL Executive of the Year in 2000, Mueller served as Director of Player Personnel for the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons franchise from 2022-23 and of the Houston Roughnecks in 2020. Prior to serving as the General Manager of the Alliance of American Football's Salt Lake Stallions franchise from 2018-19, he worked as a Senior Executive in the football operations department of the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers from 2008-18.
Inheriting a 3-13 team upon his arrival to New Orleans in 2000, Mueller hired Jim Haslett, who was the consensus NFL Coach of the Year and they worked with the club's player personnel staff to overhaul the team's roster, resulting in a 10-6 mark, the NFC West title and the franchise's first playoff victory. He also served as General Manager of the Miami Dolphins from 2005-07 and worked as an analyst at ESPN from 2002-04.
Mueller spent 17 years with the Seattle Seahawks (1983-99), joining the club in 1983 as a Pro Personnel Assistant. In 1990, he was named Pro Personnel Director and in 1995, was promoted to Vice President of Football Operations. During his tenure with the Seahawks, Mueller was one of the key decision-makers instrumental in the acquisition of three future Hall of Fame Players, quarterback Warren Moon, defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy and tackle Walter Jones.
A native of St. Maries, Idaho, Mueller played quarterback at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. As a senior, he led the Wildcats to the NAIA Division II National Championship and was named MVP of the title game
