Game notes: New Orleans Saints-Miami Dolphins preseason finale

Dolphins outgain Saints in 16-13 win

The New Orleans Saints were defeated by the Miami Dolphins 16-13, moving their 2019 preseason record to 2-2. The Saints will open their regular season on Monday, Sept. 9 when they play the Houston Texans at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Kickoff is set for 6:10 p.m. on ESPN.

Miami outgained New Orleans in total net yards 345-302.

Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater started and finished 9-of-13 for 83 yards with one touchdown, zero interceptions and a 112.0 passer rating. Bridgewater finished the preseason completing 43-of-70 passes for 400 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

Quarterback Taysom Hill completed 13-of-17 passes for 100 yards and carried five times for 35 yards. He finished the preseason completing 40-of-59 passes for 443 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Hill led the Saints in rushing during the preseason with 18 carries for 148 yards (8.2 avg.).

Devine Ozigbo got the start at running back and finished with 22 yards on four carries and three receptions for six yards.

Running back Jacquizz Rodgers finished with 33 yards on seven carries, including a one-yard rushing touchdown. Rodgers also caught a nine-yard pass. Receiver Simmie Cobbs Jr. led the Saints in receptions with six grabs for 42 yards.

Receiver Lil' Jordan-Humphrey led the team in receiving yards and caught the Saints' longest offensive gain on a 43-yard reception from Bridgewater.

Receiver Emmanuel Butler scored the first points for the Saints and his first touchdown of the preseason, hauling in a 12-yard reception from Bridgewater. The touchdown capped off a 10-play, 93-yard drive from the Saints.

Punter Thomas Morstead punted four times for a total of 196 yards (49 avg.) and two punts inside the 20.
