Alex Smith led Kansas City to early TD

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith was an efficient 7 of 8 passing on his lone series as the visiting Kansas City Chiefs grabbed a 10-0 lead on the New Orleans Saints on Friday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles scored the lone TD on a 1-yard run. The Saints were driving in Kansas City territory when the quarter ended.

Key stats: Drew Brees, 5 of 7, 54 yards. Alex Smith, 7 of 8, 68 yards. Kansas City total offense: 88. New Orleans total offense: 68.
