NFL CAREER – Few players in the era of NFL free agency can rival the impact that Drew Brees has made on the Saints since arriving in 2006 – leading the team to victory in Super Bowl XLIV and being named the contest’s MVP, earning Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2008 and 2009, Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year and Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year in 2010, being voted to the Pro Bowl five times and shattering league and team passing records. He ranks among the league’s elite quarterbacks, becoming only the second player in NFL history to pass for over 4,000 yards in six-straight seasons – including 5,476 in 2011, the highest single-season total in league annals. Brees has also set three other single-season league records since joining the Saints: 300-yard passing games (13 in 2011), completion percentage in a season (71.2 in 2011) and completions (468, 2011). Last season, he led the Saints to their third straight playoff appearance as he completed 468-of-657 passes (71.2%) for 5,476 yards with 46 touchdown passes and a 110.6 passer rating as he was voted the Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year. In addition to his NFL records in completions, completion percentage and passing yardage, he also ranked first in the league in attempts, third down passer rating (127.4) and second in touchdown passes and passer rating. Brees has also received numerous accolades and awards for taking a leadership role off the field in the New Orleans community. Originally drafted by San Diego in 2001, Brees signed with the Saints in March of 2006 as an unrestricted free agent after ranking as one of the NFL's top quarterbacks over the previous two seasons, departing as the Chargers' all-time leader for career completion percentage. Since 2006, he leads the NFL with 28,394 passing yards to become the club’s all-time leader, 3,670 attempts and 2,488 completions and 201 TD passes. Brees’ record as a starter for the Saints is 62-33 (.653) in the regular season and 5-3 (.625) in the postseason. The 62 victories are ranked first in franchise history. Brees also has thrown for over 300 yards in 50 games with the Saints, including seven contests with over 400 to tie for third in NFL record books. He will bring into 2012 a streak of 43 consecutive games with at least one touchdown pass, second in NFL records behind Johnny Unitas (47). Overall in his 11-year NFL career, he’s completed 3,613-of-5,479 passes (65.9%) for 40,742 yards, 281 touchdown throws and a 94.0 passer rating. He’s the league’s second-most accurate passer all-time, owns the eight-best passer rating, ranks ninth in completions and touchdown passes and 12th in passing yardage.
