Brian Young
Pass Rush Specialist

Brian Young enters his first season as the club’s pass rush specialist after serving as the outside linebackers coach in 2015. In his eighth season as a valued member of the coaching staff, Young has worked in various roles with the team's front seven after breaking into the ranks as a coaching assistant from 2009. He brings a unique combination of experience as he enters his 17th NFL campaign, a nine-year professional player career as well as seven years of coaching experience, since being drafted in the fifth-round of the 2000 NFL Draft (139th overall) by the St. Louis Rams. Young joined the Saints coaching staff in 2009 after concluding his NFL playing career in which he appeared in 124 games and recorded 22.5 sacks and eight fumble recoveries. He spent the first four seasons of his career in St. Louis before joining New Orleans for the 2004 season, where he went on to serve as a valuable member of the Saints interior defensive line rotation starting 58-of-64 contests over the course of the next five seasons.

Young played at Texas-El Paso from 1996-99. He was the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year as a senior when he had a career-high 121 tackles and eight sacks. The El Paso native graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He’s a 2016 inductee into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame.
