Saints kicker Wil Lutz named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

First rookie kicker from Saints to receive the honor

New Orleans Saints rookie kicker Wil Lutz was named the NFC's Special Teams Player of the Week on Wednesday following his 52-yard game-winning field goal against the Carolina Panthers last Sunday.

Lutz, who was signed by the Saints after he was cut by the Baltimore Ravens at the end of training camp, is the first rookie Saints kicker to receive the honor. Lutz's kick with 11 seconds remaining gave the Saints a 41-38 win over the Panthers and improved New Orleans to 2-3 heading into Sunday's game at Kansas City.
