Saints Re-Sign TE John Phillips To One-Year Contract

Phillips appeared in eight games with four starts for the Saints in 2016.

The New Orleans Saints announced today that they have re-signed tight end John Phillips to a one-year contract. The announcement was made by Saints' Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Phillips, 6-5 251, joined New Orleans in Week 10 off of waivers from the Denver Broncos, going on to appear in eight games with four starts for the Saints in 2016, catching five passes for 32 yards. Overall in 16 games with seven starts for both Denver and New Orleans combined, he posted 10 receptions for 72 yards with one touchdown grab.

Overall, in his eight-year NFL career, Phillips has appeared in 111 games with 39 starts, posting 55 receptions for 390 yards with five touchdowns and 33 special teams tackles during stints with the Dallas Cowboys (2009-12), San Diego Chargers (2013-15), Broncos (2016) and Saints (2016). The Low Moore, Va. native was originally a sixth round (208th overall) pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Cowboys out of the University of Virginia.
