Game recap: New Orleans Saints 47, Buffalo Bills 10

Posted Nov 12, 2017

Saints roll to seventh consecutive victory

The New Orleans Saints' seventh consecutive victory may have been their most impressive as they flattened the Buffalo Bills 47-10 Sunday at New Era Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y.

The Saints offensive line - back intact after Terron Armstead and Larry Warford returned to the lineup - led the way as New Orleans (7-2) scored five rushing touchdowns, ran the ball for 298 yards with Mark Ingram (131 yards, three TDs) and Alvin Kamara (106 yards and one TD) both breaking the 100-yard mark. The six rushing TDs broke a nearly 40-year-old record and it was the first time the Saints had two 100-yard rushers since the 2006 season.

It was the first time in Saints history they had two 100-yard rushers and one 100-yard receiver (Michael Thomas 112 yards). The Saints are the first team to rush for 295 yards and six touchdowns in a game since the 1957 Cleveland Browns (11/24/57).

The defense was equally as dominant. After giving up a field goal on the opening possession of the Bills (5-4) the defense shut down Buffalo and its play-makers, Tyrod Taylor, LeSean McCoy and Kelvin Benjamin, just giving up a late touchdown. The Bills had been undefeated at home. Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins came up with a nice interception that he returned to the Bills 3-yard line and also had a sack, one of two for the Saints.

New Orleans didn't punt as Wil Lutz converted two field-goal attempts (the final one from 53 yards) and the Saints lost one fumble.

The only negative from the game was a scary situation involving reserve running back Daniel Lasco. The second-year player injured his spine in the second quarter of
Sunday’s game against Buffalo, and was transported to a local hospital via ambulance.
The second-year running back had feeling in his extremities and was being attended to by Dr.
Michael Hartman, the Saints’ team doctor.

Lasco was injured on kickoff coverage, after Mark Ingram’s 3-yard touchdown run gave New
Orleans a 14-3 lead with 9:03 left in the first half. After helping make a tackle on Buffalo
returner Brandon Tate, Lasco lay motionless on New Era Field for several minutes before
medical attendants placed him on a stretcher and loaded him into the ambulance, which drove
onto the field to pick up Lasco.

His teammates surrounded him while he was placed on the stretcher, and applauded as he was
loaded into the ambulance. Coach Sean Payton said in his postgame press conference that all signs are positive with Lasco's condition.

The Saints return home Sunday, Nov. 19 as they play host to the Washington Redskins in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
