NewOrleansSaints.com: "What was the first week of free agency like for you?"

Devery Henderson: "It was busy. There were a lot of phone calls that my agent and I fielded and we talked to quite a few teams, including about five or six from the NFC and a few from the AFC. There were some interesting opportunities that were presented to us, but I told my agent that if things were close, my preference was to remain with the Saints."

NewOrleansSaints.com: "This is the second year in a row that you have ventured into free agency and subsequently re-signed with the Saints. What are your feelings like today after signing your new contract?"

Devery Henderson: "It feels really good and I am relieved and happy. Free agency is part of the business and something that we all except as players. But, from my standpoint, this is where I grew up, where I went to college and where I was drafted and have played my whole career. I wanted to stay here with the Saints and continue to be a part of what we are building here."

NewOrleansSaints.com: "You have talked in the past about how important it is to play here in your home state. Why is that so important to you?"

Devery Henderson: "This is a great place to live and a great place to play. I love playing in front of our fans and feel they have always treated me very well and been very supportive. It's great to play in front of your friends and family and have them be a part of the things that we do as a team. So, to answer your question, yes, it's something that is important to me and something I am thankful I have the opportunity to do. This is a high quality organization that treats you fairly and puts the players in positions to succeed."

NewOrleansSaints.com: "You've become a bigger and bigger part of the offense since Sean Payton and his coaching staff took over in 2006. Can you talk a little bit about how you feel you have developed as a player in this offensive system?"

Devery Henderson: "You hear people say a lot of times, 'the numbers don't lie.' Well, when you have the top-ranked offense in the league and play in an offense that is so explosive and so varied in the things we do each week, it makes playing in this system very fun and it's challenging. I would say that playing for Coach Payton and the coaches here is demanding. They ask a lot of you and stay on you to be the best you can be and they push you. They have given me chances to make plays and take advantage of the things that I do well and have helped me be a better player."

NewOrleansSaints.com: Some players only want to go to a place where they are pretty much guaranteed to start. The Saints clearly have a lot of options in the receiving game and players seem to switch in and out of the lineup at receiver pretty freely. Your thoughts?

Devery Henderson: "In this offense the one thing you know is that it is going to look different each week when we line up. Some weeks we open a game in three receiver sets, other weeks in one-receiver sets. Sometimes there are four of us on the field together and other times there may just be one receiver in the game. So none of that matters. What matters is that you have the opportunity make plays when Drew (Brees) calls your number and dials you up. That's what I focus on and what motivates me."
