Hoomanawanui to Serve as Honorary Coach for the 2017 Special Olympics Louisiana State Games

The Saints tight end will kick off the opening ceremonies on Friday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m.

New Orleans Saints tight end Michael Hoomanawanui will serve as an honorary coach and official starter of the opening ceremonies for the 2017 Special Olympics State Games next Friday, May 19 at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA.

Hoomanawanui will also be a referee for a flag football game as well as be signing autographs and taking photos with athletes and fans.

"Over the years, I have taken pride in volunteering in the communities that I have been – especially with Special Olympics across the country," Hoomanawanui said. "I am excited for this opportunity to meet so many talented athletes and individuals."

The 2017 Special Olympics State Games will take place Friday, May 19 through Sunday, May 21, hosting over 800 Special Olympics Louisiana athletes, volunteers, family members and staff. The event is free and open to the public.
