Todd Graffagnini's observations from New Orleans Saints-New York Jets game

Arnold, Butler and Harris stand out in win over Jets

1.*One and done:* On the last official day of training camp, New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton mentioned to the media that the starters would see action on both sides of the ball. Well the Saints won the toss, elected to receive, and Saints fans got their first look at Drew Brees at quarterback this preseason. Eight plays and one 19-yard touchdown pass to Michael Thomas later, Drew's night was over. When Brees addressed the media postgame, you could tell he was a little bit salty about the lack of more playing time, but no Saints fan at the stadium, or watching on TV back home was complaining one bit. We'll see you Opening Night, No. 9.

2.Making a case: When you're at this point in the preseason, now with one game left on a short week, this is when things get tight for those precious few roster spots that are up for grabs. Three players who helped their cause in Saturday night's 28-13 win were tight end Dan Arnold who led the team in receptions with five and yards with 83. Wide receiver Emmanuel Butler also contributed with his first catches of the preseason including his first two that were difficult grabs. Last but not least, Mr. Electricity Deonte Harris sealed the game with a sizzling 78-yard punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Payton mentioned postgame he had a feeling Harris might pop one, and that's exactly what happened. There will be some difficult decisions in a week for this coaching staff when the roster is paired down to 53.

3.*Interesting configuration:* Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., is home to both the New York Jets and New York Giants. In most every stadium, the home sideline is in front of the press box side of the stadium. In this case, the west side. However, the west sideline was occupied by the New Orleans Saints, and the home standing Jets were on the opposite side. Now that's where the Jets locker room was located under the east stands, but still very unusual. I also wouldn't want to be on that east sideline for a 1 p.m. game in September, as you would imagine temperatures would get a little toasty.
