The New Orleans Saints announced today that they have agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent CB Trumaine McBride. The team also announced that the following rookies were waived: TE Harry Flaherty, T Mike Smith, T Coy Beilby, QB Ryan Colburn and RB C.J. Gable. The team also waived veteran RB Lynell Hamilton. The announcements were made by Saints' Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.
McBride, 26, is a native of Clarksdale, Mississippi and a product of the University of Mississippi. He originally entered the NFL in 2007 as a seventh round draft selection of the Chicago Bears, for whom he played with through the 2009 season. He then signed with the Arizona Cardinals, where he played the 2010 season. He is a veteran of 47 NFL games (10 starts) and has recorded 58 tackles, eight passes defensed and one interception.
Flaherty, Smith, Beilby and Gable and Colburn previously agreed to terms with the Saints as undrafted rookie free agents on July 27, 2011.
Said Head Coach Sean Payton on the release of veteran running back Hamilton: "This was one of the most difficult decisions we've had to make since I've been the head coach here (2006). It was difficult and I have great admiration for what Lynell has done and how hard he's worked since he's been here."
