Saints Re-Sign CB Sterling Moore and DE Darryl Tapp To One-Year Contracts

Veteran defensemen return to New Orleans.

The New Orleans Saints announced today that they have re-signed CB Sterling Moore and DE Darryl Tapp to one-year contracts. The announcements were made by Saints' Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Moore, 5-10 202, signed with New Orleans at the start of the 2016 regular season and appeared in 13 games with 12 starts, posting 55 tackles (47 solo), two interceptions, a team-leading 14 passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Over six NFL seasons, Moore has started 31-of-69 career games while accumulating 179 tackles, six interceptions, 39 passes defensed, seven forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries for the Patriots, Cowboys, Buccaneers and Saints. The Southern Methodist product originally entered the NFL with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2011.

Tapp, 6-1 270, is an 11-year NFL veteran who joined the Saints in 2016 as an unrestricted free agent prior to the start of training camp. He played in all 16 games with two starts and finished with 33 tackles (15 solo), a half sack and one fumble recovery.

The Portsmouth, Va. native has played in 162 career NFL games over 11 seasons with 38 starts and has recorded totals of 330 tackles (250 solo), 28 sacks, two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, 22 passes defensed, 11 forced fumbles, 10 fumble recoveries and 11 special teams tackles. He's played with Seattle, who originally selected him in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft (63rd overall) out of Virginia Tech, Philadelphia, Washington, Detroit and New Orleans. Tapp has also appeared in six career postseason contests with two starts and has posted 15 tackles (13 solo), two sacks and two forced fumbles.
