Entering his ninth season as a pro scout and 11th with the Saints, Ryan Powell has a wealth of responsibilities that include evaluating free agents from the NFL and other professional leagues, monitoring the waiver wire and advance scouting of opponents. Powell, who also assists in the club’s yearly draft preparations, spent his first two years in New Orleans as the team’s Combine Scout. In that position, Powell evaluated college players for both the Saints as well as contributing reports to the National Football Scouting Combine.
Previously, Powell served as a Saints training camp intern in 2004. He also worked on the coaching staff at Linfield College, as an assistant on the team that won the 2004 NCAA Division III National Championship. Powell also worked for the Seattle Seahawks for three summers (1998-2000) as a training camp assistant.
A native of Bend, Ore., Powell graduated in political science and history from Linfield in 2002. He had a standout prep career at Mountain View High School, where he earned all-state honors before playing linebacker at Linfield.
