Showing the persistence to jumpstart an NFL career by appearing in stints in NFL Europa, the Arena Football League and Canadian Football League, this Mississippi Gulf Coast native has become a significant contributor to the New Orleans defensive line rotation. Originally an undrafted free agent signing of the Indianapolis Colts in 2006 out of Southern Mississippi, Johnson has appeared in 40 games over the last three seasons for the Saints and posted 73 tackles (38 solo), five sacks, one pass defense and one fumble recovery.

2013 – Played in 12 regular season games in 2013 and both playoff contests, seeing significant action in the club’s defensive line rotation. Had 15 tackles (six solo) and tied a career-high with two sacks. In NFC Wild Card Playoff at Philadelphia, 1/4/14, had one assisted tackle…Tied a  career-high with four tackles at Seattle, Dec. 2…Notched sacks at New England, Oct. 13 and vs. Dallas, Nov. 10…Inactive weeks 3-4 with a hamstring injury and also inactive for final two contests of the regular season. 2012 – Appeared in 15 games as a reserve at defensive tackle and finished with 33 tackles (21 solo) and two sacks, setting career-highs in both categories…Notched his first sack of the season at Oakland, Nov. 18, bringing down QB Carson Palmer at Oakland, Nov. 1, while adding an additional tackle…Brought down Cowboys QB Tony Romo for an eight-yard loss on third down, forcing the Cowboys to punt, while adding two more tackles at Dallas, Dec. 23…Tied a career-high with four tackles (one solo) in season finale vs. Carolina, Dec. 30. 2011 – Recovered from a calf injury suffered in training camp to appear in 13 games and recorded 25 tackles (11 solo), one sack, one pass defensed and one forced fumble…Appeared in both postseason contests and recorded one assisted tackle…Recorded four tackles (one solo) and a forced fumble vs. Indianapolis, Oct. 23…Recorded the first sack of his NFL career, taking down Vikings rookie QB Christian Ponder for a six-yard loss at Minnesota, Dec. 18. 2010 – Played for the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL, where he finished with 39 tackles, four sacks and one fumble recovery. 2009 – Appeared in six games for the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL, all of which he started at DT and had 13 tackles and three sacks. 2008 – Played for the AFL’s Philadelphia Soul and Grand Rapids Rampage. 2007 – Allocated to the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europa by the Colts, where he recorded 2.5 sacks….Went to training camp with the Colts. 2006 – Went to training camp with the Indianapolis Colts.

COLLEGE – Finished his career with 2 seasons as Southern Mississippi he started 12 of the 19 games he played in…Had career totals of 57 tackles (26 solo), three sacks and one fumble recovery…As a senior, had 54 tackles (24 solo), three sacks and one fumble recovery…Transferred to Southern Mississippi from Gulf Coast (Miss.) Community College…Majored in coaching and sport administration at Southern Mississippi.

PERSONAL– Attended Moss Point (Miss.)
