NFL CAREER – This Mandeville native returned to join his hometown team in 2015 and has made solid contributions on defense and special teams in the last three seasons, including making an inspirational comeback to the team in 2017 from a challenging medical issue. The son of former Saints wideout and special teams ace Rich Mauti, Michael Mauti has appeared in 58 career games with four starts in five NFL seasons and has tallied 50 tackles (32 solo), one sack, two forced fumble, 36 special teams stops and one blocked punt he recovered for a touchdown.

He played in all 16 contests with two starts and recording a career-high 26 tackles (19 solo), a team-high 12 special teams stops and blocking a punt and recovering it for a touchdown…Recorded two special teams tackles in his New Orleans home debut vs. Tampa Bay, Sept. 20…Vs. Atlanta, Oct. 15, blocked a punt midway through the first quarter and returned it for a touchdown to put the Saints up 14-0. It was his first career blocked punt, as well as his first career TD. Michael and Rich, became the only Saints father-son combination to score touchdowns in Black and Gold. Also added two special teams tackles…Saw action on both defense and on special teams vs. N.Y. Giants, Nov. 1 and made four tackles (two solo) and on special teams stop…Made his first career start and also saw action on special teams vs. Tennessee, Nov. 8 and made a career-high eight tackles (career-best six solo) and a special teams stop…Started at SLB and also played on special teams at Washington, Nov. 15, finishing with four tackles (three solo)…Played on both defense as well as on special teams at Houston, Nov. 29 and tied his career-high with eight tackles (six solo)…Played on both defense and on special teams vs. Carolina, Dec. 6 and made one solo tackle and one coverage stop…At Tampa Bay, Dec. 13, played on both defense and on special teams and posted one coverage stop…Vs. Detroit, Dec. 21, played on defense and special teams and made one solo tackle and team-high two coverage stops.  2014 – Inactive for first two games before playing in the next eight in his final season in Minnesota. Finished season with four special teams tackles (three solo)…Delivered highlight-reel hit on a punt return on Tampa Bay RS Trindon Holliday late in fourth quarter, Oct. 26, swinging the momentum back in Minnesota’s favor, helping the Vikings earn a 19-13 overtime win...Placed on Injured Reserve, Dec. 10 (knee).  2013 – Made his NFL debut vs. Cleveland, Sept. 22, and was credited with one special teams tackle...Tallied two special teams tackles at Wembley Stadium vs. Pittsburgh, Sept. 29...Recorded two special teams stops five times...Credited with two tackles at Seattle, Nov. 17, his first NFL defensive stats. Tied for third on team with 13 total special teams tackles in 14 games.

 

COLLEGE – Started 22 of the 39 games he played at Penn State…Part of 8-4 PSU team in 2012 that was not eligible for bowl game. Capped college career by being honored with Big Ten’s Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year award as a senior, the Nittany Lions’ 2012 Outstanding Senior Player Award, serving as co-captain and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors from both coaches and media, leading the conference with 125 interception return yards and ranking second on the team with 95 tackles…Started all four games he played as a junior in 2011…Granted medical redshirt in 2009…Saw action in 13 games as a true freshman in 2008.

 

PERSONAL – Standout at Mandeville (La.) HS and ended career ranked as the nation’s #3 MLB prospect by ESPN and ranked #58 overall on the ESPN Top 150...Played in the United States Army All-American Bowl after high school...Earned Louisiana All-Class 5A honors as senior...Father, Rich, played in the NFL from 1977-84, playing as a wide receiver and special teams contributor in his first seven seasons in New Orleans…In 2015, spoke with sixth-through-eighth grade students at Christ Episcopal School…In 2016, was part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 Hometown Grant program, visited students at Garyville Magnet School…In 2017, collaborated on a Christmas Event with the Forekids Foundation to provide gifts for underprivileged families.
