NFL CAREER – Since being signed by the club as a free agent in October 2008, Charleston has evolved into a significant member New Orleans’ defensive line rotation as well as being a valuable contributor on special teams. The high-energy end has appeared in 65 career games, with four starts. First signed by Houston as an undrafted free agent in 2006, Charleston latched on with Indianapolis in 2007 before coming to New Orleans. In his career, he’s recorded 113 stops, eight sacks, three forced fumbles, four pass defenses one fumble recovery and 34 special teams tackles.

2011 – Appeared in ten games and recorded 11 tackles (five solo), one sack and three special teams stops…Played in both postseason contests and made three tackles (one solo)…Recorded two tackles (one solo) and his first sack of the season for a four-yard loss at Minnesota, Dec. 18. 2010 – Appeared in all 16 games with one start and finished with 35 tackles (21 solo), three sacks, two passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery…Added seven special teams tackles…Received first career start as a Saint, opening at RDE in place of injured Will Smith at Arizona, Oct. 10 and had five tackles (three solo), one for a loss…Made three tackles (two solo) and notched his first sack of 2010 at Carolina, Nov. 7…Made three tackles and two special teams stops vs. Seattle, Nov. 21…Played in 50th career game at Dallas, Nov. 25 and recorded two solo tackles and two special teams stops…Sacked QB Sam Bradford for a loss of eight yards, among his five tackles (three solo) and added a pass defensed and a special teams stop vs. St. Louis, Dec. 12…Recorded two solo tackles and forced a fumble by RB Michael Turner near the goal line that was recovered by LB Marvin Mitchell at Atlanta, Dec. 27…Made two tackles, including a ten-yard sack of QB Josh Freeman, where he stripped the ball, recovered it and also knocked down a pass vs. Tampa Bay, 1/2/11…Made three tackles in NFC Wild Card Playoff at Seattle, 1/8/11.  2009 – Played in all 16 regular season games, making 15 tackles as a reserve defender and seven more tackles on special teams…Also played in all three postseason contests, notching nine tackles…Made one defensive tackle, another on special teams and also alertly fielded a short kickoff at Buffalo, Sept. 27…Played on special teams and made two tackles in kick coverage at Washington, Dec. 6…Recorded one defensive tackle along with two special teams stops vs. Tampa Bay, Dec. 27…Saw extended playing time at Carolina, 1/3/10, and finished with season-best five tackles…Made postseason career-best five tackles in NFC Divisional Playoff against Arizona as he received more extensive playing time…Recorded two tackles in NFC Championship vs. Minnesota…Played as a reserve in Super Bowl XLIV and made two tackles. 2008 – Signed by Saints, Oct. 14…Appeared in 10 games and posted 11 tackles (eight solo) and three sacks, tied for third on team.
