Originally signed by New Orleans in 2013, after spending his first season on the club’s practice squad, Johnson handled fullback duties as well as contributing on special teams for the first half of his 2014 campaign. Carrying eight times for 22 yards and making two receptions for 15 yards and one touchdown, as well as posting four special teams tackles, Johnson will compete for a roster spot as he seeks to contribute both on offense and the team’s coverage units.

2014 – Played in seven games with one start, handling lead blocking duties and contributing on special teams before being placed on injured reserve at midseason. Carried eight times for 22 yards, caught two passes for 15 yards with one touchdown and posted four special teams tackles. In opener at Atlanta, Sept. 7, blocked for a rushing attack that accounted for 139 yards and two touchdowns on the ground…At Cleveland, Sept. 14, ran for two first downs in his first two career rushes while totaling 10 yards on two carries and blocked for a rushing attack that gained 174 yards on the ground…Rushed once for two yards and made two special teams stops, blocking for Khiry Robinson who gained 69 yards vs. Minnesota, Sept. 21…Earned his first career start vs. Tampa Bay, Oct. 5 and helped block for a rushing attack that gained 140 yards. Gained two yards on one carry and had a special teams stop. Rushed once for five yards and had his first career reception, a 13-yard touchdown grab, while adding one special teams stop, at Detroit, Oct. 19…Helped block for Mark Ingram’s career-high 172 yard rushing effort, while rushing twice for one yard and making a two-yard grab vs. Green Bay, Oct. 26…Inactive at Carolina, Oct. 30 before being placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. 2013 – Spent the majority of the season on the practice squad. 

COLLEGE – Four-year letterman at Tennessee, who appeared in 43 career games and posted 126 tackles (64 solo), one sack, 10 tackles for a loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, five interceptions and one pass defensed…Three-time Academic All-SEC selection…Started all 12 games at middle linebacker as a senior in 2011 and led the Volunteers with 81 tackles (41 solo) and four interceptions, tied for the NCAA lead by linebackers and ranked fourth overall in the conference…Posted 44 stops (22 solo), one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception as a junior…Converted to linebacker as a junior after spending his first two campaigns at fullback. 

PERSONAL – Two-time all-state selection at Hickory (N.C.) HS, where he finished with 580 career tackles…Made several school visits to students for who he provided inspirational speeches in the 2015 offseason…Born June 16, 1989.
