NFL CAREER – Originally drafted by the Houston Texans in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft (135thoverall) out of Pittsburgh, Savage brings starting experience to the Saints as he is expected to compete with Taysom Hill for the slot backing up Drew Brees. The Springfield, Pa. native, stepped up for the Texans in 2017, appearing in eight games with seven starts completing 125-of-223 passes for 1,412 yards with five touchdowns. For his career, the former Pittsburgh star has played in 13 games with nine starts, completing 181-of-315 passes for 2,000 yards and five touchdowns.

CAREER TRANSACTIONS – Signed by New Orleans to one-year contract (UFA-HST), 3/16/18; Placed on Injured Reserve by Houston, 12/23/17; Placed on Injured Reserve by Houston, 9/1/15; Signed by Houston to four-year contract, 5/16/14; Selected by Houston in the fourth round (135th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Appeared in eight games with seven starts in his final season in Houston, completing 125-of-223 passes for 1,412 yards with five touchdowns, six interceptions and a 71.4 rating…Completed 18-of-36 passing for 211 yards and one touchdown at the Los Angeles Rams, Nov. 12…Completed 22-of-37 passes (59.5 percent) for 252 yards at Baltimore, Nov. 27...Had his best game as a pro at Tennessee, Dec. 3, establishing career-highs in yards (365), yards per attempt (7.45), completions (31), attempts (49) and career long completion (57 yards). Completed 31-of-49 passes for 365 yards for a touchdown. 2016- Appeared in three games with two starts and completed 46-of-73 passes (63.0 percent) for 461 yards and rushed six times for 12 yards...Active, but did not play in Weeks 1-12 and AFC Divisional Playoff at New England, 1/14/17…Inactive for Week 13 at Green Bay, Dec. 4, and Week 14 at Indianapolis, Dec. 11…Came off the bench and completed 23-of-36 passes for 260 yards and an 85.4 passer rating vs. Jacksonville, Dec. 18…Made his first career start and completed 18-of-29 passes for 176 yards and a 79.1 passer rating in the AFC South-clinching win vs. Cincinnati, Dec. 24…Completed five-of-eight passes for 25 yards and a 67.2 passer rating before exiting the game in the second quarter due to concussion at Tennessee, 1/1/17…Inactive vs. Oakland, 1/7/17 in the AFC Wild Card Playoff with a concussion. 2015- Placed on the Reserve/Injured List (right shoulder) on Sept. 1 and missed the entire season. 2014- Inactive in Weeks 1-12…Made his NFL debut but did not attempt a pass vs. Tennessee, Nov. 30…Was 10-of-19 passing for 127 yards and an interception in relief of Ryan Fitzpatrick at Indianapolis, Dec. 14. Completed his first NFL pass at 13:06 of the second quarter to DeAndre Hopkins for nine yards.

 

COLLEGE – Played one season (2013) at Pittsburgh after two seasons (2009-10) at Rutgers…Transferred from Rutgers to Arizona prior to 2011 season but wasn’t eligible to play under NCAA transfer guidelines…Transferred from Arizona to Pittsburgh prior to the 2012 season but wasn’t eligible to play under NCAA transfer guidelines…Started 28 of 31 games played…Completed 430-of-757 passes (56.8 percent) for 5,690 yards, 37 TDs and 19 interceptions, finishing with 5,371 yards in total offense…Majored in Communications.

 

PERSONAL – Attended Cardinal O’Hara (Springfield, Pa.) HS, starting at QB in his last three seasons from 2006-08…Completed 190-of-426 passes for 2,547 yards and 20 TDs…Played in U.S. Army All-American Bowl and the Big 33 Football Classic…As senior, passed for 1,355 yards and 10 TDs…Older brother, Bryan, played quarterback at Wisconsin (2004-05) and Hofstra (2007-08).
