NFL CAREER – Ellis has started all 54 games he has appeared in since being drafted seventh overall in 2008, and has proven that his strength against the run and ability to rush the passer is a key factor in the Saints’ defense.  He’s posted 220 stops, 12.5 sacks, knocked down 14 passes, forced a fumble and recovered one.  Ellis appeared in 15 games in 2011 and finished with 55 tackles, 0.5 sack and four pass defenses. He earned All-Rookie honors in 2008 after being one of the most coveted players in the NFL Draft.

2011 – Started all 15 games he appeared in, missing Tennessee contest with a hamstring injury, and finished with 55 tackles (21 solo), 0.5 sack and four pass defenses…Started both postseason contests and recorded six tackles (two solo)…Tied career-high with ten tackles (three solo) as part of an interior effort that held the Texans to only 28 second-half rushing yards vs. Houston, Sept. 25…Ellis and DE Will Smith combined to sack Carolina QB Cam Newton for a five-yard loss on a third down play in the second quarter, forcing them to punt at the Panthers, Oct. 9…Centered a run-stopping effort in NFC Wild Card Playoff vs. Detroit, 1/7/12, that allowed the Lions to gain only 32 yards rushing. 2010 – Started all 16 games and NFC Wild Card Playoff...Finished breakout season with career-highs in tackles and sacks, posting 78 stops (30 solo), a team-best six takedowns, three pass defenses and one fumble recovery…In opener vs. Minnesota, Sept. 9, led the line with eight tackles and notched a nine-yard sack of QB Brett Favre…Made seven tackles and a four-yard sack of QB Matt Ryan vs. Atlanta, Sept. 26…Recorded five tackles, including a sack for a loss of five yards and  two pass defenses vs. Carolina, Oct. 3…Made two tackles, including one for a loss vs. Pittsburgh, Oct. 31…Finished with four tackles, including a sack and a pass defense at Carolina, Nov. 7…Posted seven tackles and forced a fumble, sacking Bengals QB Carson Palmer on first half’s final play at Cincinnati, Dec. 5…Made five tackles, including a five-yard sack of QB Joe Flacco at Baltimore, Dec. 19…Made two tackles in NFC Wild Card Playoff at Seattle, 1/8/11. 2009 – Played in and started 10 games – missing six with knee injury – and had 45 stops (28 solo), two sacks, two pass defenses and a fumble recovery…Added 12 tackles in postseason, ranking second among all defensive linemen, and recorded the team’s only sack…Had four stops in Super Bowl XLIV vs. Indianapolis, including one for a loss…Top postseason performance came vs. Minnesota in NFC Championship with seven stops, but also notched an eight-yard sack vs. Arizona in divisional playoff, his lone tackle in the contest…Set a career-high with 10 tackles (four solo) and a sack at Buffalo, Sept. 27…At Miami, Oct. 25, had three tackles before leaving the game in the third quarter with a knee injury. COLLEGE – Three-year starter at DT for USC, finishing with 144 tackles (74 solo), 17.5 sacks, 13 pass defenses, one blocked kick, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries…Started 26 of 48 games in his career…Unanimous first-team All-American selection and recipient of the Pat Tillman Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year award as a senior, posting 58 tackles (29 solo), 8.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries…Considered USC’s strongest player as senior, benching over 500 pounds…Junior All Pac-10 choice with 4.5 sacks and a blocked kick…As a sophomore started all 13 games at NG…Majored in sociology.

PERSONAL – Attended Chino (Calif.) HS, where he earned All-State and Prep All-American honors as a senior offensive and defensive lineman – and fullback in goal line situations…Also competed on track team.
