Rotolo’s Pizzeria teamed up with Saints Defensive End Cameron Jordan and Defensive Tackle Akiem Hicks to surprise third, fourth, and fifth graders of Alice M. Birney Elementary School in Metairie with an afternoon visit on Tuesday, Apr. 30.

The purpose of the visit was for the two defensive players to stress the importance of reading through the Rotolo’s Literacy Program.

Jordan talked about how important reading is no matter how old you are.

“Reading is a vital part of your life from day one,” said Jordan. “I’m 23 years old and I still love to read.”

Hicks stressed how important school is with some advice.

“It’s important to be on time, be in class and do whatever your teachers tell you to do,” said Hicks. “Do your homework, pay attention and work hard to be successful.”

After their discussion, the players held a question and answer period where many students were able to ask about everything from what their favorite book is to who is their favorite player on the team. Students had the opportunity to answer questions about the purpose of the visit in a trivia session with the winners receiving autographed 2012 Saints yearbooks.

Each student in attendance received Saints stickers and the children were served pizza courtesy of Rotolo’s.
