7. Saints Record First Winning Record
Jim Mora entered his second season as the head coach of the Saints in 1987. The league saw the NFL Players Association announce a labor strike and three games were played with replacement players. Following the strike, Mora looked to improve on the 2-1 record earned by replacement players. On Novermber 29, the Saints entered a contest at Three Rivers Stadium against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a chance to clinch their first winning record in franchise history. At the end of the fourth quarter, the Saints led 20-16 but the Steelers were close to another score. The Saints defense stepped up and stopped the Steelers on the goal line on two consecutive plays to give the win to New Orleans. The Saints finished the regular season by winning nine consecutive games to move to 12-3 but still finished second place in the division behind the San Francisco 49ers.
