First-quarter update: The Seattle Seahawks raced out to a 17-0 lead Monday night at CenturyLink Field thanks to a fumble returned for a touchdown and a 60-yard reception by Zach Miller that led to a 2-yard TD reception by Miller.

Cliff Avril hit Saints quarterback Drew Brees on a third-down pass attempt and forced Brees to fumble. Michael Bennett picked up the ball and scooted 22 yards for a touchdown.

On their next possession Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson rolled to his right and hit a wide open Miller who was prevented from scoring on the play by a nice hustle tackle by David Hathorne. Seattle also scored on a 26-yard field goal by Steven Houschka.

Key stats: Drew Brees, 4 of 6 for 23 yards; Seahawks, Russell Wilson, 6 of 8 for 111 yards and one TD.
