Saints sign TE Gilmore; Waive LB Humber & Make Practice Squad Moves

Gilmore spent the past three years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The New Orleans Saints announced today the team has signed veteran TE John Gilmore and waived LB Ramon Humber. Saints’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis made the announcements.

Gilmore spent the past three years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and his first six seasons with the Chicago Bears. He began his career as a Saints draft pick in 2002 when he was selected in the sixth round out of Penn State. The 6-foot-5, 257-pounder caught 13 passes for a career-high 160 yards and one touchdown last year (2010) in Tampa Bay. For his career he has registered 52 receptions for 524 yards (10.1 avg.) with five touchdowns, as well as 26 special teams tackles. The Pittsburgh Steelers released Gilmore on September 3, 2011 after he signed with the Steelers as an unrestricted free agent on August 3, 2011.

Humber, a three-year veteran, originally signed with the Saints in the final month of the 2010 campaign after spending the first season and a half of his NFL career with Indianapolis, who he originally signed with as an undrafted free agent in 2009. In 2010 Humber played in three games regular season games where he recorded three special teams tackles. He also played in the team’s NFC Wild Card game at Seattle in the postseason and tallied two special teams stops.

The Saints also made several practice squad transactions. The team added WR Montez Billings (Saints Training Camp, 2011: Auburn), T Dennis Landholt (New York Jets Training Camp, 2011: Penn State) and T Will Robinson (Seattle Seahawks Training Camp, 2011).

The Saints also announced that they waived the following players from their practice squad: LS Kyle Nelson, C Cecil Newton and QB Sean Canfield
