Saints at Browns: Postgame Notes

Postgame notes from the Saints at Browns preseason contest.

  • New Orleans' next preseason contest is on Sunday, August 20 when they visit the Los Angeles Chargers at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. following two days of joint practices between the two clubs in Costa Mesa, Calif.
  • The Saints now have a 1-2 record against the Browns in the preseason.
  • New Orleans outgained Cleveland 320-312.
  • The Saints defense held the Browns to a four-for-14 third down conversion mark (29 percent) and a one-for-three fourth down conversion mark (33 percent).
  • QB Drew Brees did not play, and QB Chase Daniel started in his place, completing four of six passes for 27 yards.
  • QB Garrett Grayson took over behind center for New Orleans' third drive in the first quarter and completed 11-of-16 passes for 126 yards and a 92.2 passer rating.
  • QB Ryan Nassib made his Saints debut during the last drive of the third quarter, during which he completed three-of-three passes for 32 yards and a score. Overall, Nassib completed 10-of-14 passes for 110 yards, one touchdown, and a 118.2 passer rating.
  • RB Alvin Kamara got the start and had four carries for a team-leading 35 yards, including a 22-yard pickup.
  • RB Daniel Lasco entered the game after Kamara and led the team in rushing attempts with seven carries for 24 yards and also added one reception for 3 yards. On his first carry, he took the ball upfield for 14 yards. He later scored on a two-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter.
  • WR Tommylee Lewis caught ten passes for 124 yards, including a two-yard touchdown reception from Nassib to open the fourth quarter. Lewis' ten receptions in a preseason game are the most for a Saints receiver in the Sean Payton era.
  • Lewis and Grayson connected on a 32-yard pass to the Cleveland three-yard line in the third quarter, the Black and Gold's longest play of the day.
  • WR Jake Lampman had two receptions for 33 yards.
  • DE Mitchell Loewen, in his NFL playing debut, had two tackles (one solo) and led the team with 1.5 sacks for 13.5 yards.
  • CB P.J. Williams led the team with six tackles, all solo.
  • DE Al-Quadin Muhammad, in his NFL debut, notched two tackles and split a sack with Loewen.
  • DE Alex Jenkins, a member of the Saints International Practice Squad, recorded one solo tackle and a sack for a loss of five yards.
