The Saints (@Saints) were named one of six finalists for the best Sports Team Twitter account in the 2012 Shorty Awards. Along with the Saints, the New England Patriots, Kol Knight Riders, Sheffield Wednesday, MERCEDES AMG F1 and Liverpool FC were named finalists for the award.
The Saints won the Shorty Award for best Sports Twitter account in 2011.
Morstead (@ThomasMorstead) received the Shorty Vox Populi distinction by the Academy for receiving the most nominations in the Football Twitter category.
The Saints and Morstead utilize their social media outlets to engage their fans by updating them with the latest information, photo and videos.
The Shorty Awards winners will be announced on Monday, March 26th at 7:30 pm ET at the TimesCenter in New York City.
Hailed as the “Oscars of Twitter” by the New York Times, the Shorty Awards honor the best people and organizations producing short-form, real-time social media content. Winners are determined by popular vote and members of the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts and Sciences.
Every year millions of people come to the Shorty Awards website to tweet their nominations and root for their favorite social media content creators, culminating in an awards ceremony that recognizes the winners in dozens of featured categories, as well as thousands of crowd-sourced ones.
Nominations closed with more than 1.6 million tweet nominations this year.
