Bring back former LSU product

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the team has waived/injured running back Lynell Hamilton and signed free agent linebacker Harry Coleman.

Hamilton, a second-year player, first signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent following the 2008 NFL draft. The 6-0, 235-pound runner out of San Diego State spent nearly all of his rookie season on the club’s practice squad before playing an expanded role in the 2009 season, playing in nine games with one start and rushing for 125 yards and two touchdowns while contributing on special teams as a key blocker and recording seven tackles. Hamilton, 25, suffered a torn ACL during a combined practice in New England earlier this week.

Coleman was signed by the Saints as a rookie free agent in May and participated in the team’s offseason program before being waived shortly before the start of training camp. A two-year starter at LSU, Coleman (6-2, 212) made a career-best 82 tackles with four sacks as a senior in 2009.
