Saints, UnitedHealthcare team up to create Get Fit youth fitness zone

Youth fitness zone created at McDonogh #32 Literacy Charter School

New Orleans Saints players joined UnitedHealthcare for a visit to McDonogh #32 Literacy Charter School on Wednesday, May 18.

Saints players Cameron Jordan, Willie Snead, Kyle Prater and Reggie Bell visited third- through sixth-grade students and demonstrated how to use the new fitness equipment at the school. The students started out with an assembly where Joe Ochipinti, CEO of UnitedHealthcare for Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi, stressed the importance of physical activity and healthy nutrition. The assembly was followed by students trying out the fitness equipment and played outside with the help of NFL PLAY 60. Students were able to interact with the Saints players and they all walked away with bags, waterbottles and autographed Saints yearbooks from the Saints and UnitedHealthcare.

"We were able to take a room in the McDonogh #32 Literacy Charter School and we gutted the room and we were able to in the conjunction of the New Orleans Saints and UnitedHealthcare, begin to really just clean it out and we put a bunch of coats of paint in there and we put in the equipment," Ochipinti said. "With today and the kids with their technology and iPhones, we made it very interactive with different things, I think there is an XBox in there, so they can use video games to stay fit."

Members of the Saintsations and Saints mascot Gumbo were also in attendence.

"We're just coming out to support the UnitedHealthcare "Get Fit" event and seeing the kids work out and break a sweat and just teaching them how to use the equipment," Snead said. "It's a good event and we're having fun at the same time."
