Saints 2013 Draft Position History

Going back over the past decade, below is a look at the players who have been selected in the positions currently held by the Saints in the 2013 NFL Draft.

ROUND ONE
#15: Over the last 10 drafts, defensive ends and linebackers have been selected two times apiece...Johnson and Pierre-Paul have gone on to earn multiple Pro Bowl selections, while Cushing was selected to the All-Star game following his NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year campaign in 2009...Pierre-Paul and Timmons have been cornerstones of Super Bowl Championship teams...Irvin served as as Seattle’s pass rush specialist in his rookie season and finished with eight sacks, capturing PFWA All-rookie honors...Pouncey immediately took the starting reigns for the Dolphins at center, opening every game since and garnering all-rookie honors in 2011....Pierre-Paul has developed into one of the NFL’s most devastating pass rushers, posting 27.5 sacks in three seasons, including two Pro Bowl berths, while helping power the Giants to the Super Bowl XLVI Championship in 2011, when he posted 16.5 quarterback takedowns....Since coming into the league in 2009, Cushing, the AP NFL 2009 Defensive Rookie of the Year has been one of the league’s most dominating defenders...Albert has manned the left tackle position for the Chiefs since being drafted in 2008...Timmons has been a solid starter on both the inside and the outside for the Steelers since 2008, garnering All-Pro honors in 2010...Johnson has posted 874 career stops for the Chiefs, representing the club at the last two Pro Bowls...In an eight-year NFL career, Clayton, a former LSU standout, made 223 receptions for 2,955 yards with 10 touchdowns...Seven of the last 10 players selected with the 15th pick are still in the NFL.

ROUND THREE
#75: Over the last ten drafts, two guards and two tackles have been chosen from the 75th spot...In only one season, Wilson turned out to be the most spectacular player of this group, as he was selected as the NFL Rookie of the Year and to the Pro Bowl, completing 252-of-393 passes for 3,118 yards with 26 touchdowns, a 100.0 passer rating, while gaining 489 yards and four touchdowns on the ground...Moffitt has appeared in 17 games with 15 starts at guard for the Seahawks...Wright has found a home at strong safety for one of the NFL’s best defenses in Chicago, where he’s recorded seven interceptions, two returned for  touchdowns...Reggie Smith has appeared in 45 career games with seven starts at safety, posting 54 career defensive tackles and 29 special teams stops...Laurent Robinson enjoyed a breakout season for Dallas in 2011 when he recorded a 54 receptions for 858 yards and 11 touchdowns...Spitz has appeared in 75 career games with 45 starts at all three interior positions...Starks has appeared in 123 career games and started 96 contests at both tackle positions for the Steelers...Six of the last 10 players selected with the 75th pick overall are still playing in the NFL.

ROUND FOUR
#109: Over the last 10 drafts, defensive ends, guards and linebackers have been taken two times apiece...Since coming into the NFL in 2011, McCarthy has taken over middle linebacker duties for the Titans, posting 121 tackles, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions...Wootton came into his own in his third season in 2012, posting seven sacks, two forced fumbles and returning a blocked punt for a touchdown, while moving into the starting lineup...Lang has taken over starting left guard duties for the Packers...McGlynn has appeared in 42 career games with 34 starts and currently mans the middle for the Colts..Nicholas has been a four-year starter at linebacker who has filled up the stat sheet for the Falcons...Avant has played a crucial role in Philadelphia’s wideout rotation grabbing a career-high 53 receptions in 2012...In a seven-year NFL career, Barber rushed for 4,780 yards and 53 touchdowns...Johnson has enjoyed a 10-year standout career as an outside linebacker, now with the Chargers...Seven of the last 10 players selected with the 109th pick overall are still playing in the NFL.

ROUND FIVE
#144: Over the last 10 drafts, wide receivers and tight ends have been selected two times apiece from the 144th selection slot..After spending his entire rookie season on injured reserve, Sanders will compete for a starting spot on the offensive line in 2013...Keo was voted by his Texans teammates as a special teams captain midway through the 2012 season based on his impact on coverage units and also recorded an interception and moved into the starting lineup for the playoffs...McMannis has been a special teams standout for both the Texans and Bears since coming into the league, blocking a punt in 2012...Dillard recovered from a serious foot injury to become a key member of Jacksonville’s wideout rotation in 2011...Pressley was part of the Saints’ defensive line rotation for their Super Bowl XLIV championship campaign...Ryan enjoyed a six-year NFL career as a blocking specialist, including playing in one game for New Orleans and posted 26 catches for 240 yards with two touchdowns...Davis enjoyed a three-year career in Detroit, two as a starter. Seven of the last ten players selected with the 88th pick overall are still playing in the NFL.

#183: The 226th pick has churned out two cornerbacks, two defensive tackles and two linebackers...Todman will compete for carries in Jacksonville’s backfield in 2013...Olsen has found his niche in New Orleans as the club’s top backup interior lineman while also serving as a fullback and tight end...In his rookie season, Larsen became one of the rare players to start the same game at both an offensive (fullback) and defensive (linebacker) position...Studdard has appeared in 25 career games with 14 starts on the interior...Jolly has been a three-year starter both at defensive end and defensive tackle for the Packers...Brooks, a New Orleans native, played three years for the Bengals...Moore appeared in 43 career NFL games with 18 starts as a rotational player alongside the Seahawks, Jets and Patriots defensive lines...Five of the 10 players listed below are still in the NFL.

#243: The 243rd pick has featured two defensive tackles and two players that now handle long-snapping duties for their teams...Owens saw limited action as a rookie in 2010...Harris has handled long snapping duties for Cincinnati since 2009...Palmer spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons with Green Bay...Furio spent part of the 2004 and 2005 seasons with the Eagles...Kelly had a three-year NFL career with New England and Cleveland...Massey has handled long snapping duties in 135 games for the Rams since 2002...Sands enjoyed a nine-year NFL career and enjoyed a productive six-year tenure in Oakland as a run-stopping tackle...Five of these players are still active in the NFL.
