Country music singer Kenny Chesney presented Brees with the award.
The ESPY award winners were selected by fans voting on ESPN.com. Brees’ award marks the fourth ESPY of his career as he won three in 2010.
“Thank you to all the fans for voting and thank you to the Who Dat Nation for being so loyal,” Brees said after winning the award. “Congratulations to the other nominees. I would like to thank Dan Marino and all the other great quarterbacks for setting the bar and standard that we try to achieve. I would also like to thank my beautiful wife Brittany and our two boys at home, Baylen and Bowen, and one more on the way due next month.”
Brees attended the ESPYs with his wife Brittany and fellow Saints QBs
Brees beat out Duke Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski, Golfer Lexi Thompson and Yankees Closer Mariano Rivera for the Best Record-Breaking Performance category. The Saints QB was also nominated for the ESPY for Best NFL Player, which was awarded to Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.
In 2011, Brees shattered Dan Marino’s 27-year-old mark by passing for 5,476 yards, and his 468 completions broke Peyton Manning’s 2010 record of 450. Brees finished the season completing 71.6 percent of his passes, breaking his own 2009 NFL record (70.6).
