Playoff Flashback, Feb. 7, 2010: Super Bowl XLIV, Saints 31, Colts 17

Posted Jan 3, 2014

CB Tracy Porter intercepted a Peyton Manning pass and raced 74 yards for a touchdown that gave the Saints their first Super Bowl title

Leading 24-17 and trying to stop the Colts offense, cornerback Tracy Porter intercepted a Peyton Manning pass and raced 74 yards for a touchdown that gave the Saints their first Super Bowl title. The Saints staved off two consecutive Colts drives that gave them an early 10-0 lead andresponded with two long field goals by kicker Garrett Hartley. The Saints started the second half with a surprise onside kick, which was recovered by safety Chris Reis and would lead to a 16-yard pass play on a screen from quarterback Drew Brees to running back Pierre Thomas to take a 13-10 lead. The Colts took the lead back midway through the third quarter on a four-yard run by running back Joseph Addai. New Orleans struck back with its first of 18 unanswered points when Hartley kicked his third field goal, a 47-yarder to put the Saints within one point near the end of the third quarter. The Saints took the lead for good late in the fourth quarter when Brees found tight end Jeremy Shockey for a two-yard TD, followed by a two-point conversion on a pass play to receiver Lance Moore.
