Prior to the game, the Saints will have a special presentation for Jerry Romig who recently retired after serving as the team’s PA announcer for 44 years. The team will also recognize former Saint Steve Gleason as his foundation, Team Gleason, will be the Saints Charity Spotlight. With the participation of more than 5,000 fans in the Back to Football Run presented by Chevron on Aug. 31, the Saints will make a donation on behalf of Saints fans to Team Gleason during the pre-game presentation.
Sunday’s pre-game festivities will also include a special thank you to Saints fans for achieving the eighth consecutive season-ticket sellout in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Fans will also have real-time access to statistics during games through the team’s recently-introduced Saints mobile app presented by Verizon. The free app, which is available on ITunes and Google Play, will also provide fans with access to game photos, videos and audio, as well as a map of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with a listing of the facility’s rest rooms, merchandise and concession stands.
Several new game-entertainment elements will be unveiled as a direct result from discussion with fans, as well as through season-ticket holder surveys.
At Sunday’s season opener, fans will notice a new look around the field as the interior reflects the noise and level of energy that fans add to the atmosphere of a Saints game. As new PA announcer, Mark Romig, makes his debut, the Saints will be tracking fan impact on crucial plays, including opponent pre-snap penalties, forced timeouts and defensive stops on third downs.
"The thunderous noise and on-your-feet energy that our Saints fans provide during home games makes the Mercedes-Benz Superdome the loudest stadium in the world,” said Owner/Vice Chairman of the Board Rita Benson LeBlanc. “The Saints fan engagement during home games has a significant impact on the outcome and makes our home field an intimidating challenge for opponents. The passion from fans demonstrates the special relationship and bond that our community has with our players – they make a difference and we want to recognize the game-changing effort they bring on Saints game days.”
During pre-game warm-ups, video boards inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome will feature live Saints locker room footage as players prepare for the game. In addition to a new introduction video and format, fans will be surprised by the team’s entrance for every home game as the team’s entry point on the field will be different each game.
The Saints also received feedback in regards to music selection during home games. To reflect fans’ requests for variety, the soundtrack for Saints home games will be different than years past. During the Saints’ journey to winning the Super Bowl in 2009, the Ying-Yang Twins’ “Stand Up and Get Crunk” became an anthem for the team and its fans. With the start of the 2013 season, “Stand Up and Get Crunk” will still be played at home games, but will be reserved for special occasions and big moments throughout the year.
Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews will perform the national anthem on Sunday and the LSU band will perform at halftime. Karma will be performing pre-game at Champions Square.
