New Orleans Saints sign receiver Tobais Palmer, tight end Richard Quinn

Saints waive NT Tyrone Ezell and OLB Marcus Thompson and waive/injured WR Steve Hull

The New Orleans Saints announced Wednesday that they have signed wide receiver Tobais Palmer and tight end Richard Quinn and waived nose tackle Tyrone Ezell and outside linebacker Marcus Thompson and waived/injured wide receiver Steve Hull. The announcements were made by Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

Palmer, 5 feet 11, 178 pounds, was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2013 out of North Carolina State. After making one receptions for six yards, returning five punts for 34 yards and bringing back one kickoff for 14 yards in the 2013 preseason, the Pittsboro, N. C., native appeared in one regular season game for the Jaguars and also had two stints on their practice squad. He spent most of the 2014 offseason with the San Diego Chargers. In two seasons at North Carolina State after transferring from Georgia Military College, Palmer’s career college totals included 91 receptions for 1,277 yards (14.0 avg.) for 11 touchdowns. As a senior in 2012, he started all 13 games and made a team-high 54 catches for 781 yards (14.5 avg.) and six touchdowns.

Quinn, 6-4, 264, comes to New Orleans after spending part of the 2014 offseason on the roster of the Washington Redskins. The former North Carolina standout was originally a second round draft choice (64th pick overall) by the Denver Broncos as one of the nation’s top blocking tight ends. After playing in 29 games with four starts in two seasons with the Broncos, the Huntsville, Ala., native appeared in one game for the Washington Redskins in 2011 and spent the entire 2012 season with the Cincinnati Bengals, going to training camp with the Bengals in 2013. Quinn finished his college career for North Carolina appearing in 34 games with 20 starts and totaled 12 receptions for 124 yards with two touchdowns.
