New Orleans Saints rookie report: Rod Sweeting

Posted Aug 7, 2013

Defensive back from Georgia Tech trying to make the team

Rod Sweeting agreed to terms with the New Orleans Saints in April as an undrafted free agent. The Georgia Tech product tied the school record by appearing in 54 career games. The cornerback registered 160 tackles (113 solo), one sack, five interceptions, 24 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

During his senior campaign, the two-year starter recorded 58 tackles (42 solo) with six tackles for a loss, one sack, one interception, seven passes defensed and one fumble recovery. He is competing for a roster spot against veterans, Keenan Lewis, Jabari Greer, A.J. Davis, Corey White, Dion Turner, Korey Lindsey and Chris Carr.

What’s been you’re biggest transition from college to the NFL?

“Just picking up the game speed. There’s a lot more plays than college but other than that I feel like I’m doing pretty good.”

What have you like most about New Orleans so far?

“One thing is the people love the Saints. In college and being in Atlanta, the people didn’t love the team like that. Coming to New Orleans the people love the saints so that’s been huge for me. “

Have you had any special rookie duties?

“Just picking up pads and bringing them Gatorade and water for the meetings and things like that, but besides that not too much. “

What veteran have you learned from the most? I’ve heard that Keenan Lewis has been helping you out.

“Keenan Lewis has been the most helpful for me. Since the first day he said little bro ill look out for you. So he took me under his wing and showed me the ropes around here. I would say Keenan would be the most influential to me around here.”

Walk me through your routine for Friday’s game.

“I’m not sure. This is my first preseason game being in the NFL. I’m sure well be at the hotel and meet for a little bit and then we go to the game stadium.”
