Khiry Robinson was signed by the New Orleans Saints in May from West Texas A&M. Robinson, a two year starter, rushed for 2,290 yards and 26 touchdowns and caught 60 passes for 612 yards and six touchdowns

In 2012, Robinson registered a school and Lone Star Conference record 1,621 yards with 15 touchdowns while also adding 38 receptions for 430 yards and four touchdowns. He was named to D2Football.com All-America and first team All-Conference.

What’s been your main focus through this experience?

“Really getting the playbook down and the protections. I got to protect Drew and that’s Drew Brees. Whether it’s Drew or not I got to protect the quarterback.”

What are you looking to get out of most from Friday’s game?

“Just getting all my assignments done. Try to be perfect. Pick up every block, run every route right, hit the right hole and finish all my runs. Basically just finish everything and do everything right.”

Who’s been helping you the most in the meeting rooms?

“Actually, Ryan Griffin because he’s a rookie also. The fellow running backs help me too. If I have a question I may ask them for help. I just stay in the playbook and me and Griffin go over the protections and the plays sometimes. He’s been a big help to me and so have the coaches.”

Have you had any rookie duties so far?

“Yeah, I had one rookie duty so far. I had to carry Ingram’s and Pierre’s pads into the locker room. I also had to sing a song.”

What song did you sing?

“A Spanish song. I sang Merry Christmas in Spanish. I had to do something different.”

What drove you to sign with the team knowing how loaded the Saints are at your position?

“You know, competition. I’ve never been a person that’s been afraid of competition. I just like the Saints organization. I heard about Coach Payton. They’re one of the few that are organized here. I wanted to be a part of a Super Bowl team that had a good background. Really, I wanted to come here because of Drew Brees. I got an opportunity and I took it. It was the Browns or the Saints and I took it. It was a great opportunity.”
